Meet Shawnee

Hi, I'm Shawnee and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas, based in Central Texas. I specialize in working with eating disorders and disordered eating. I help clients build a more supportive relationship with their bodies, food, and emotions by creating space to understand what lies beneath symptoms. My identity and lived experience, including my own recovery journey, deeply inform my work, allowing me to approach therapy with compassion, cultural humility, and curiosity. I also work with individuals navigating mood disorders, anxiety, interpersonal conflict, and multigenerational or family-of-origin dynamics. My approach is relational and collaborative, grounded in connection, trust, and respect for each person’s unique story. I believe meaningful change takes time. I work patiently and intentionally, walking alongside you at a pace that feels sustainable and supportive.

Collaborative

I invite clients to slow down and get curious about their thoughts and emotions without harsh self-judgment. Together, we practice meeting difficult experiences with kindness and understanding, rather than criticism or pressure to “fix” things right away. This compassionate approach helps create a sense of safety, making it easier to build insight, resilience, and a more supportive relationship with yourself that continues outside of our work together.

In therapy, we focus on well-being rather than weight, and on listening to your body with curiosity instead of judgment. I support clients in untangling from diet culture, building a more compassionate relationship with their bodies, and honoring their physical and emotional needs as they are right now. Sessions are a space where all bodies are respected, and where care, healing, and growth are not tied to changing your size.

I believe therapy works best as a collaborative process. Rather than taking an expert-only role, I see our work as a partnership where your voice, experiences, and goals guide the direction of sessions. We check in regularly about what feels helpful, adjust as needed, and move at a pace that feels right for you. Collaboration helps create a supportive, empowering space where insight, growth, and change can happen together.

Trauma-Informed

I recognize that our mental health is shaped not only by our personal experiences, but also by systems like racism, oppression, body stigma, and inequality. In sessions, we make space to explore how these forces impact your life while honoring your resilience and lived experience. Therapy is a collaborative space where your identity is respected, power is shared, and healing is understood within the broader context of the world you move through.

I understand that trauma can shape how we think, feel, and relate to ourselves and others, often in ways that once helped us survive. In sessions, we move at a pace that feels safe, with an emphasis on choice, collaboration, and respect for your boundaries. My goal is to create a supportive space where you feel seen and empowered, and where healing can unfold without pressure or re-traumatization.
